How does water help you lose weight?
In the battle to lose weight you will come across many different ideas and strategies to help you along the way, but the reality is you really just need 3 things: more targeted exercise, a good diet and the missing ingredient for a lot of people which really slows them down; to drink more water. Given the fact that water is vital for us even when we aren’t trying to lose weight it is crazy to think that such an easy addition to a diet really could speed up your weight loss; but it really could and here are 5 reasons why!
- Drinking water limits your appetite. Simply by having a few extra glasses of water each day you will stop having the urge to eat so much, especially snacks. It will suppress the urge by filling that hunger void with water instead, meaning lower calorie intake.
- Drinking water will help to drastically reduce your cholesterol levels. Now don’t forget that this will help you slim down quicker but is also a massive health battle against heart problems in the future so it has huge benefits all round.
- Taking in a lot of water helps with your workouts and exercising as it helps your muscle toning and recovery. Even if you do a huge amount of exercise but don’t drink enough water you simply won’t get the benefits and effects from it.
- Water will help you feel like you have more energy and also help you maintain a better lifestyle. Lack of water will lead to feeling bloated which will upset your diet and also feeling lethargic which may alter your exercise routine and also your sleep patterns.
- Your liver plays a huge part in the breakdown of foods in your diet and in particular the fats. However to metabolize the fats it needs a lot of water – simply put if it doesn’t have enough water it can’t break down the fats! If the fats aren’t broken down they will be stored on the body, which isn’t exactly what you want when you are trying to lose weight.
So on its own does water help you lose weight?
Yes and no. It certainly will help you but if it isn’t part of a healthy diet and a good exercise plan then it will be essentially useless. You really should consider the question as does water help you lose weight as part of a fully thought out plan; in which case the answer is yes, yes, yes.
